In Probable Improbability – Mosasaur Fossil, we are witnessing a mysterious operation performed by the (an)archaeologist, one who does archaeology in reverse by burring a fossil in a place that could not have been inhabited by the animal. This displacement of the historical object, questions its identity as evidence. This creates a riddle, and a question to future archaeologists. The artwork, which will be completed only upon the discovery of the object-riddle, addresses itself to the set of operations and procedures that define archaeology as a science, and its future development. Dans Probable Improbabilities- Mosasaur Fossil, 2014, nous sommes témoins d’une opération mystérieuse réalisée par l’(an)archéologue, qui prend le contrepied de l’archéologie, en enterrant un fossile dans un lieu où l’animal n’a pas pu habiter. Ce déplacement de l’objet historique interroge son identité comme preuve. Cela crée une énigme, et une question pour les futurs archéologues. L’œuvre d’art, qui ne pourra être complète que lorsque l’objet-énigme sera découvert, s’adresse à la collection des opérations et des procédures qui définissent l’archéologie comme une science et son développement futur.
